Procurement and Contractor Safety Management Support
Procurement and Contractor Safety Management Support
Ensure safety does not stop at the front door.
At WWISE, we understand that your business’ health and safety commitments reach further than your own operations; they extend into your supply chain and to every outsourced process or contractor you appoint. That is why we offer expert services to assist you in conforming to the ISO 45001:2018 requirement of clause 8.1.4, which focuses on the management of occupational health and safety risks in procurement and contracted services, as part of a robust Health and Safety Management System.
What is the requirement of clause 8.1.4 of ISO 45001:2018?
Clause 8.1.4 of ISO 45001:2018 requires organisations to:
• Incorporate occupational health and safety criteria into procurement processes.
• Ensure that outsourced processes and appointed contractors’ function under effective controls.
• Evaluate and monitor suppliers’ and/or contractors’ health and safety performance.
How can we help you?
- Procurement policy and procedure alignment:
WWISE will help you revise and update or develop policies and procedures to include health and safety vetting criteria, ensuring suppliers’ evaluations and re-evaluations go beyond cost and quality to include occupational health and safety risks. These enhancements are designed to align with your Health and Safety Management System and strengthen your compliance posture.
- Contractor and supplier vetting and pre-qualifications:
Our experts design, develop and implement systems to ensure contractor and supplier health and safety performance, compliance, and certifications are vetted before they are appointed and approved to commence work.
In addition, our consultants can conduct audits of contractors and/or suppliers on your behalf. These audits are tailored to your specific requirements based on your health and safety landscape and carried out in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, relevant regulations (i.e. General Safety Regulations, Machinery Regulations, etc.), and/or the Mine Health and Safety Act, depending on your industry. This falls within our broader Health and Safety Consulting services to ensure all contractors and suppliers meet the necessary compliance standards.
- Contractor and supplier risk assessment:
WWISE carries out bespoke risk assessments based on the scope of contractors and the nature of services or goods being purchased. These assessments aim to identify potential health and safety risks before they lead to incidents, enhancing your overall Health and Safety Management approach.
- Contractual control measures:
Our experts assist with integrating health and safety requirements into agreements with customers, suppliers, and contractors. This includes access controls, health and safety meetings, accident and incident reporting procedures, and PPE requirements, all contributing to a well-rounded Health and Safety Management System.
- 5. Contractor/Supplier health and safety performance monitoring and auditing:
Once appointed, suppliers and contractors are monitored to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including your internal requirements. We offer onsite second-party audits, customised checklists, auditing, and reporting tools to enhance performance and ensure accountability.
These audits are based on both organisational and legal requirements, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, and/or the Mine Health and Safety Act. This support is part of our comprehensive Health and Safety Consulting offering.
Construction regulations require that contractors perform contractor and subcontractor audits every 30 days. At WWISE, we ease the burden on your health and safety officers by conducting these audits on your behalf. After each audit, we deliver a detailed, contractor-specific report within 7 days.
