    Akash, a qualified Parasitologist, holds a BSc in Life and Environmental Science with a specialization in Zoology and Human Physiology from the University of Johannesburg. He furthered his studies with a BSc Honours in Zoology, specializing in Parasitology, from the University of South Africa. His honours research delved into the Occurrence of Waterborne Pathogens in the Great Vhembe area, Limpopo, South Africa.

    Currently pursuing a Master of Science degree at the University of South Africa, Akash is focused on researching the effectiveness and implementation of the South African Climate Change Policy Framework outlined in the Climate Change Bill. His study includes analyzing progress in meeting emission reduction targets, promoting sustainable development, and addressing vulnerabilities to climate change.

    Akash commenced his career as a graduate researcher at the Water Research Commission, contributing to the COVID-19 surveillance and reference group. He played a crucial role in developing a system for the Giyani water project in Limpopo, with a research emphasis on improving policies related to water, health, and infectious diseases.

    Transitioning to WaterAid as a Programme Officer, Akash concentrated on implementing various WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) projects in South Africa aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. During his tenure at WaterAid Southern Africa, he collaborated with organizations such as the United Nations and international NGOs from the USA and UK. Akash also worked closely with the South African government, facilitating knowledge transfer and handovers.

    Akash’s expertise spans GHG (Greenhouse Gas), ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), climate adaptation, policy formation, climate resilience in WASH development, research and development (R&D), community engagement, program evaluation, international development, sustainable development, and public speaking. He volunteered as a scientific writer and climate change officer and engaged with executives globally, expanding his network from Africa to the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

    A member of the South African BRICS Youth Association, South African Youth Climate Change Coalition, and the Oxford Climate, Akash brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his multifaceted career in the field of Parasitology, Climate Change, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene.
