Meet one of the youngest auditors in Africa, who has already built an impressive 10-year career in the Testing, Training, Inspection, and Certification (TTIC) industry, working with some of the world’s leading companies. His experience includes working with large corporate clients across Africa.
Over the past decade, he has held various roles, including Senior Consultant, Lead and Internal Auditor, Project Manager, Business Development Manager, Regional Manager, Trainer, Facilitator, and Content Developer.
His expertise within ISO standards is broad, covering ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management), ISO/IEC 27001 (Information Security, Cybersecurity, and Privacy Protection), ISO/IEC 22301 (Security and Resilience, Business Continuity Management Systems), ISO 17021 (Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems), ISO 31000 (Risk Management), IATF 16949, and TAPA (Lead Auditor – TSR, PSR & FSR). He also holds certifications in over 20 OHS courses and Train the Trainer.
His inspiration for pursuing a career in ISO training and consulting stems from a desire to help companies streamline processes, reduce risks, and achieve ISO certifications that unlock new opportunities. He enjoys problem-solving, training teams, and witnessing organisations succeed. He is passionate about helping professionals understand and implement ISO standards effectively.
He finds great reward in empowering and guiding individuals from diverse backgrounds, seeing how training can contribute to both organisational and personal growth. He appreciates the opportunity to help teams overcome challenges and find practical solutions, which keeps his work engaging. He values the continuous learning that comes from interacting with people and sharing experiences and perspectives. He strives to connect with delegates on an individual level. He recalls a biology teacher whose passion ignited his own interest in the subject, demonstrating the power of a teacher’s influence. This experience inspired him to empower others and encourage positive change through learning, development, and training.
Mueen believes knowledge should be shared in an accessible way, recognising that individuals have varying levels of emotional and intellectual intelligence, and he adapts his training style to resonate with all delegates.
His training style is passionate, engaging, and focused on personal connection with each delegate. He uses techniques to make learning interactive and enjoyable, often relating topics to delegates’ own experiences to facilitate understanding. He develops his training by researching and understanding the audience, the context of the organisation, and its operations, ensuring the training is relevant and engaging.
He identifies common challenges organisations face when implementing ISO standards, such as employee resistance to new processes, lack of leadership commitment and employee participation, difficulty in maintaining and continuously improving management systems after certification, and inefficient change management. He helps organisations overcome these challenges through awareness sessions, leadership education, ensuring mandatory requirements are met, and promoting risk-based thinking in change management.
Mueen’s advice to individuals or organisations considering ISO certification is that successful implementation begins with committed leadership. He emphasises that ISO certification contributes to achieving the UN’s sustainable development goals, demonstrates transparency and good governance, and improves investor confidence.
